Centre Stage was formed in 1990, at the request of Egglescliffe Community Centre, by Maureen Tait, in order to produce shows for the benefit of the community.
The first production was the pantomime, ‘Sinbad the Sailor’ followed in the summer by Sandy Wilson’s ‘The Boyfriend’.
The years have rolled on with very successful staging of pantos and musicals every year and some extra shows as well. There has always been an abundance of talent in the group with some members going on to stage schools, entertainment, teaching, the media and even the West End!
It has established a wonderful reputation over the years with appreciative audiences for every show. All is made possible because of the commitment, humour and teamwork of everyone involved.
Maureen Tait retired from Centre Stage after the summer production of ‘The Sound of Music’, June 2014. Michelle Dawson took over the role of Producer and her first production was ‘Cinderella’ in January 2015. Michelle took the difficult decision to leave the group after the 2017 pantomime, Snow White & The Babes in The Woods.
Lauren Smith then took over the role of Producer, with her first show as Producer being Rock of Ages, July 2017. This Summer Kieron Layton produced our Summer show, Legally Blonde the Musical and will continue to be Producer for all our Summer musicals. Lauren Smith will return after a short break and will be Producer of all our pantomimes.
Centre Stage is run entirely by volunteers. The group receives no external funding or support and every show that is produced is a result of the group coming together, working hard and volunteering their time and energy to make things happen.
Centre Stage performs a pantomime and a musical every year. Sometimes the group also perform at charity events and fundraising shows.
Centre Stage is run by a committee which is key people from the group who represent the group. These people are voted onto the committee at the AGM which takes place annually.
Full information about Centre Stage is available from our information leaflet in the policies section.
